Burning Candle by ChristophMaier Burning Candle by ChristophMaier
A macro of a burning candle, a 6 image stack and first attempt. I was a bit too slow unfortunately. It glowed much better in the beginning but setting up the shot took me a bit longer. Still, I think for a first attempt it looks pretty decent. Enjoy and make sure to view it at 100%

Suggester Says: " I love the way we can see the wick of the candle burning with those orange colors, and the flame surrounding it makes it an even more interesting picture."

Thank you :) This one is certainly one of my favorite macro pictures and like it so so often with macros I was surprised by the result myself. There are so many details hidden right under our noses that we never see. Really have to get back behind my camera again

Wow, I've never seen anything like this before!  I like how the focus is on the glow at the tip of the candle wick and the flame is more like a background.  Congratulations on the Daily Deviation -- you definitely deserve it.  :)

Thank you very much, that is very kind of you :)
It is certainly one of my most successful works for sure. And like so often the very first try was the most successful one as well. I retried it many times but was never able to really recreate the image.
Glad you enjoyed it :)

You're welcome.  Yeah, photography can be like that sometimes ... an initial snapshot can turn out better than a lot of carefully planned shots due to sheer luck.

Lovely!
What kind of macro lens did you use? If you used one.

Thank you :) This was done with my SIGMA 150mm 2.8 OS Macro. Absolutely stunning lens if you ask me.

Thanks so much. Yeah, macro really shows us a world hidden just under our noses. (Although especially macro and high-speed photography can really reveal surprising details)

Glad you like it :)

Thank you, much appreciated :) It was a very lucky experiment to be sure. When I took the photo I had no idea how it would turn out. (And much less the appreciation it would get on dA :) )

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee :) I've never thought of THAT object for a macro, although it's soooo simple. Magnificently done, the detail is incredible, especially in combination with the glassy smoothness of the flame and background. Excellent work here.

Great shot. Which program did you use to put the images together? And did you use a regular 1:1 macro lens?

:iconchristophmaier:
ChristophMaier Featured By Owner Feb 7, 2014  Hobbyist Photographer
I used Photoshop CS6 and my Sigma 150mm 2.8 OS macro, which is a regular 1:1 macro. I don't think I used my 2x converter for that shot.

Thank you!
Well, the lens I used was a 150mm macro, so it wasn't even that close. Distance most likely was something like 15cm (just under 6 inches) Couldn't have done it with my old 50mm macro though. (At least not with burning something on the lens ;)
